How much are you worth?

This is a very important question because if you don’t know the answer you may be in trouble! This is also an important question because it reveals the divide between the wealthy and the middle-class. Most people ask, “how much do you make?” Wealthy people ask, “how much are you worth?”

This small mental break speaks volumes. One way of thinking has you chasing your payments and the other asks how many payments will it take to catch you!

Unfortunately, most of us don’t know our worth. We never learned how to calculate it and it sounds like a daunting task.

And when it comes to defining how much we are worth, most us us really don’t want to know.

I think it’s important to define the difference between worth and value. If you are reading this I’m sure you are a valuable person. Just by being here and reading this you prove an interest in taking care of yourself and improving your situation. I’m sure your life has value in other meaningful ways as well including family, education, community service and pride in the work you do. And none of that has anything to do with your worth.

Worth is only your value in money. There are many things more important than money including family and spiritualism. Given the choice between faith and cash, I’ll take faith.

But that’s me and I’m getting away from the point.

The point is, if you have a solid financial system of accounting you can always know your worth. Your worth is what gets you credit. Worth brings on investors. Worth is leverage. Worth is where the money is.
